Now for the second question related to The Oracle of Bacon:
2. Why Kevin Bacon? What is it about Kevin Bacon that allows him to have such “connectivity” with other actors?
I typically receive a lot of answers to this question. Responses like, “because he has been in a lot of bad movies,” or “he has been in more movies than others.” The truth is that the Kevin Bacon has been in movies from a lot of genres. So, what is the lesson here? The lesson is: Diversity in networks is important. The reason Kevin is connected to such a broad range of actors in relatively few “steps” is that he has been in movies from diverse genres – from action to comedy to drama, etc. We should seek to emulate this in our own networks. Think about expanding your network to include people with different backgrounds, experiences, etc. Moreover, when we look at individuals among our customer networks, we should seek out those who have diverse networks.
To recap, we’ve learned about two important aspects of networks from The Oracle of Bacon:
1. Context matters.
2. Networks thrive on diversity.
Next we’ll look at why networks matter in the first place!

Re: The Oracle of Bacon Revealed! Part 2
Myra,
I like the thread you have going here (and, for some reason, like Kevin Bacon and some of his really bad films).
You are spot on with the thought of diversity among one's network. One thing I've found is that even when expanding networks to include diverse backgrounds, experiences etc, a critical element (for me, anyway) is finding folks with similar values to mine. This common element seems to help build a very strong network and people who are commited to helping each other achieve goals.
Keep blogging away. I'm enjoying your posts!
Cheers,
Andrew
