What should you do with influencers?

This is a very interesting post about a program that Virgin America has instituted for “online influencers.”  I won’t get into my typical diatribe about how one should actually measure influence… I know you all have heard that enough from me.  However, I do like what the author has to say about the danger of trying to “buy” influencers.  I wonder what might happen if Virgin reached out to these folks, and instead of offering them free products and services, asked for their input about how to make the Virgin experience better for everyone?  Then to follow, what might happen if Virgin took action on some of their recommendations? 

It is helpful to remember that a message delivered by a “trusted and unbiased source” is ten times more powerful than traditional marketing, media and sales messages.  The key words there are trusted and unbiased.  We cannot forget that when we seek to engage with Key Network Members.
